Welcome to a new series I’m calling “Learning in Public: The Anti-Greed Gospel.”
This is not a book summary.
It’s not a review.
It’s a wrestling match.
Each week, I’ll work through a chapter of The Anti-Greed Gospel by Malcolm Foley and reflect on how it confronts my faith, my assumptions, and the Church’s calling in our current moment.
I’m not showing up as an expert. I’m showing up as a student. If you’re curious, struggling, hopeful, or heartbroken—this space is for you. Let’s learn together.
What’s This Book About?
Here’s how Foley introduces it:
“Race and racism are children of Mammon.”
This is the core claim of the book—that racism has always been driven by greed more than hate.
The systems of racial violence that have shaped our world were built to protect wealth, power, and profit. Foley doesn’t let us settle for shallow reconciliation. He calls us to the costly work of resistance, redistribution, and real community.
If that makes you feel a little uncomfortable, you’re in the right place.
Why I’m Doing This
Because I need this.
Because my church needs this.
Because I’m tired of conversations that stop at personal bias and never get to economic justice.
Because I believe the gospel is more than good vibes—it’s good news for the poor.
Because learning in public is a spiritual practice.

🧵 A section called Wrestling with the Text – where I’ll name what’s challenging me, where I’m unsettled, and how this might show up in my preaching or pastoral life
